Writing for Differentiation

Writing for two identical products can be a challenge. The brand personality and voice typically take a back seat when it comes to prioritizing the user's intention of building their resume quickly.


Here's a comparison of how the experience can vary without introducing drastic changes to the product.


Problem:

  • Resume upload is not available on mobile

  • How can we use an existing design while maintaining product differentiation


Insight:

  • 15.85% of desktop users select the upload option

  • 1.4 % more users complete the journey using the upload option based on a similar product


Resumes created from scratch vs. uploaded:


Solution:

  • Add an Upload Resume option after the user selects a template

  • This will help reduce user fatigue from filling in all the required information


Left: baseline design proven to increase journey completion.

Right: new iteration based on a validated experience of an identical product.
